Yemen's Grand Mufti Urges World Scholars to Confront Saudi Claims Against Islamic Sanctities

Beirut — Yemen's Grand Mufti has called on Islamic scholars worldwide to unite in exposing what he describes as Saudi Arabia's repeated slander against the sanctities of the Muslim Ummah, according to a message delivered to a senior Lebanese Shia cleric.

Hawzah News Agency- a Yemeni delegation visiting Lebanon delivered a message from Yemen's Grand Mufti, Sheikh Shams al-Din Sharaf al-Din, to Sheikh Ali al-Khatib, Vice President of the Supreme Islamic Shia Council of Lebanon.

The message requested that Sheikh al-Khatib review the statement issued by Yemeni scholars and assist in disseminating and clarifying the truth of Yemen's position regarding Saudi claims that it has targeted Mecca and other Islamic sanctities.

The letter also called on scholars of the Ummah to take part in refuting what it described as these falsehoods and in revealing the truth before public opinion across the Islamic world.

Speaking in the presence of the delegation, Sheikh al-Khatib expressed sorrow over the situation in Yemen, citing more than 11 years of war, the siege imposed on the Yemeni people, and ongoing battles that have produced martyrs and victims.

He said the conflict should have been directed against the "Israeli" enemy and the enemies of the Ummah, rather than among the children of the Ummah itself.

Sheikh al-Khatib expressed hope that all capabilities and energies would be directed toward the central issue — the Palestinian cause — and toward confronting the arrogant "Israeli" enemy that threatens all Arabs and Muslims.

The meeting comes amid ongoing efforts by Yemeni religious authorities to clarify their country's position in the face of repeated Saudi accusations concerning the holy sites, and to rally Islamic scholarly opinion against what they view as attempts to distort Yemen's stance and sow division within the Muslim world.

The Yemeni delegation's visit to Lebanon is part of a broader diplomatic and religious outreach aimed at building solidarity among Islamic scholars and countering narratives that Yemeni officials say serve to justify the continued war and blockade on their country.

Sheikh al-Khatib reiterated Lebanon's longstanding support for the Palestinian cause and emphasized that the Muslim world's collective energies should be focused on confronting external threats rather than internal disputes, warning that division only benefits the enemies of the Ummah.

The message from Yemen's Grand Mufti and the discussions held during the meeting underscore growing efforts among Islamic religious leaders to coordinate positions on major regional issues, particularly the Palestinian question and the challenges facing Muslim nations under external pressure.
